Michelle Steel understands what it means for a government to work for its people. As an immigrant whose parents fled communist North Korea, fighting for an honest, democratic system hits close to home. Even when it wasn’t popular, Michelle Steel has always worked across the aisle to fight for a fair and honest government that puts people first. She will do the same in Congress.
Rooting out Corruption
In 2017, Michelle Steel helped establish a five member ethics commission at the county level to establish oversight and root out corruption in the county. The commission was created to oversee much needed campaign finance limits, lobbying laws, gift bans and establish a code of ethics.
Funding Ethics & Government Watchdog Groups
Michelle provided key funding for county watchdog groups– the ethics commission and the Office of Independent Review– so they have the necessary resources to serve as the impartial and independent oversight agency to hold the government accountable and root out corruption.
Holding Government Officials Accountable for their Actions
While serving as Vice-Chair on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Michelle adopted a resolution to require all county officials to complete anti-fraud training. The training was created to hold government officials accountable and ensure they are responsibly calling out corruption in government.
Protecting Public Safety
Michelle Steel is endorsed by local law enforcement because she has spent her career protecting public safety – from keeping the community safe to making sure no person is above the law. Violent crimes and property crimes have dropped during Michelle’s first term on the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
