During AAPI Heritage Month, Lightweight and Phony Derek Tran Mocks Michelle Steel for Being a First Generation Who Came to America for the American Dream

Yet, it’s exactly why his parents came to America.

Garden Grove, CA – Lightweight and phony Derek Tran today mocked Michelle Steel because she came to America for the American Dream.

In an interview with Punchbowl that led with a bold-faced lie, Tran said, “Michelle still tries to run on that she’s a refugee or she tried to flee communism. No, that’s not true at all,” Tran said. “She came to this country for economic gain. That’s not the same as losing one’s country after the fall of Saigon in ‘75 and having no home.”

Michelle Steel’s family fled Communist North Korea, and Michelle later came to America with her mother and sisters to start a better life. Yet somehow, for Derek Tran, that’s different from exactly what his own parents did, which he touts on his web site

Derek is the son of refugees. His parents fled the Communist regime in Vietnam so that their children could realize the American Dream in Southern California. Through hard work and sacrifice, Derek’s family opened a corner market where Derek worked every day after school.

“It’s asinine that instead of lifting and celebrating those who work hard for their American Dream (like his parents), Derek spends his time on lies and baseless attacks. This behavior is disgusting, especially during AAPI Heritage Month,” Steel Spokesperson Lance Trover said. “It should be lost on no one that this is the same Derek Tran who gladly sat for an interview with a man who said Michelle Steel was ‘unintelligible’ and who gladly accepts the endorsement of Jay Chen who mocked Steel’s accent.”
